Our Founder
Founder Monty Sharma brings over fourteen years of hands-on experience in green space design, underpinned by a background in Industrial Design and Corporate Engineering Consulting. His passion lies in reconnecting people with the natural world—especially in urban areas.
Urban Botanica Collective is a green space design studio founded in 2018 IN Newcastle/Awabakal and Worimi land.
With a focus on biophilic design, permaculture principles, and sustainable innovation, Urban Botanica Collective transforms indoor and outdoor environments into living, breathing spaces that inspire connection and wellbeing. From lush vertical gardens and preserved moss installations to immersive outdoor sanctuaries, every project is crafted with intention, creativity, and a deep respect for nature.
Monty and the Urban Botanica team are committed to designing spaces that are not only visually striking but restorative, functional, and deeply rooted in place.
Our design ethos
Guided by Permaculture & Sustainable Design Principles
At its core, permaculture is about working with nature rather than against it. We design spaces that are responsive to their surroundings, efficient in their use of resources, and resilient over time.
Our approach is grounded in three core ethics:
Care for the Earth
We design with respect for natural systems, prioritising soil health, water efficiency, biodiversity, and long-term environmental stewardship.
Care for People
Every space is designed around how it will be lived in and experienced — supporting wellbeing, comfort, and a stronger connection to nature.
Fair Share
We believe in responsible use of resources, honest design solutions, and creating systems that are sustainable, practical, and appropriate for their context.
By applying these principles, we create landscapes and nature systems that are not only visually compelling, but also functional, low-impact, and designed to thrive well into the future.
